Community Projects
Tracey Roberts is often asked to be involved in Community Arts Projects - both in the visual and performing arenas.
GEMCO Theatre Train carriage Mural
The GEMCO theatre in Emerald acquired an old red rattler train carriage back in the 1990s which fell into disrepair. It is currently being refurbished with the view to becoming a pop-up venue for various community events and GEMCO commissioned Tracey to design and create a theatrically based mural on the side of the carriage. GEMCO Players, young and old, helped with the initial colouring in and then Tracey finished off the painting over several weeks, tidying up edges and embellishing the 18m long artwork.
Eastern Dandenong Ranges Association (EDRA)
In 2022, EDRA commissioned a handful of artists to produce some cheerful pavement art to celebrate Christmas in the hills and help to promote trade for local businesses. This was Tracey's piece drawn outside Mitre 10 Hardware store in Emerald. Naturally musically themed.
Olinda community parklet
In 2022 the Shire of Yarra Ranges selected a group of local artists to decorate a number of Parklets around the hills that were erected to encourage people to meet in outdoor spaces during the Covid pandemic - this piece, entitled "Post Covid Dawn" is about musical instruments waiting patiently to return to music venues in Melbourne after the lockdowns. It is in Olinda.
Beneath Tall Trees
A collaborative project between Yarrunga Community Centre and Headspace - working with young people to create a wall mural depicting the history, surrounds and community spirit of Yarrunga Community Centre.

Paint the Future - wall hanging
This piece is the result of a commissioned painting workshop project to help and guide children to
produce a 3 panel wall hanging
for Transition Towns Maroondah. At the Maroondah Festival in November 2013 we had lots of kids
helping to "PAINT THE FUTURE" and we completed the first 2 panels then
ran out of time so completed the wall hanging with the bottom panel at the
May 2014 Croydon Farmers Market. It's been a wonderful project, I've loved drawing everyone's
ideas and the kids have loved painting colourful images of what they would like to see in the
future - including solar panels, wind turbines, market gardens, electric cars and a flying dog!

Tracey was so great to work with - flexible, responsive, and really tuned into what outcome we were looking for. The result is stunning - three beautiful, colourful panels depicting images of a Sustainable Maroondah, that will soon be turned into a 3 x 3 banner that will be used in public displays. Tracey was great with the children who turned up to participate in the painting workshop - much fun was had by all - a tribute to the gentle and encouraging energy that Tracey brings.
